Maintenance

While still wet, after or during emptying all the parts which can be reached should be scrubbed with etiher sponge or brush and then rinsed.

To avoid bacteria grown in the timber we recommend that an hour before you empty your hot tub you add the given amount of disinfectant to the water which should break down in the water within 40 minutes.

You will initially fill your tub to a depth of roughly 65cm allowing it to remain within the maximum depth (80cm) when water is displaced when fully occupied.

Your internal wood burner will be surrounded by a fence to help prevent contact with the hot surfaces inclduing chimney and once the fire is lit you should not make any contact with the boiler. We highly recommend to purchase the chimney heat guard if you have some children around or potentially adults after few drinks. No surface underwater will be hot enough to cause a burn unless sustained contact is maintained.

External heater is surrounded by water and the wall are contantly cooled down however the chimney and the door will be hot.

If you follow the instructions and correctly clean and disinfect your hot tub then it should not become slippery. There is a risk that a slippery coating may be formed by bacteria if you leave dirty water sitting in your hot tub.

This can be controlled completely by you through changing the amount of air which reaches the fire by adjusting the regulator. You can then use the thermometer to judge when your chosen temperature has been obtained. To prevent the water temperature from raising significantly from this point all you need to do is shut off the air intake.

The wood-fired hot tubs which we supply offer a peaceful and serene environment, while maintaining efficiency and affordability. Using a wood burner is also much kinder to the environment than more conventional methods of heating your hot tub and also gives you the advantage of being able to place your hot tub wherever you desire!

We will supply the main barrel completely assembled. The only things you will have to do is to attach the flue and the external heater. This should take no more than half an hour once the hot tub is placed in your desired position.

Your hot tub should be delivered within 28 days of the order.

At least 10% deposit is required to start processing your order.

You can pay us via Bank Transfer, cheque. Credit or debit card (with 3% surcharge). We also accept Paypal (3% surcharge) and cash on delivery.

Yes! If you have children or potentially adults after few drinks, we recommend to get a chimney heat guard.

Apart from when you are cleaning it, the hot tub should be full. During the winter if there is exceptionally cold weather to the extent that there is a risk of freezing then the tub should be emptied. These shrinkage issues only apply to wooden models.

You can put it on gravel or concrete as long as it is level. Your hot tub is likely to be too heavy to stand on decking unless you have it specifically built to take the weight. You also need to ensure that the hot tub has a good airflow underneath in order to maintain the condition of the base.

The wood which your tub will be constructed from is a good insulator so you will only need a low fire to maintain the temperature you have chosen. There will still be heat remaining in the water if the lid is left on overnight.

You need to stay hydrated while using your hot tub. If you do not then this can lead to a headache.

The high temperatures are not recommended for people with heart problems.

It is not recommended to take babies into hot tubs. If you do take your baby into your hot tub you must ensure the hot tub is at a suitable temperature and then it should be no different to a normal bath.

Water is beneficial for your skin but exposure to hot water for a long time will dry out your skin. If you keep the correct sanitizer and pH balance you can prevent any additional skin irritation. Moisturising after bathing is also recommended.

No. As long as you keep yourself hydrated and maintain the sanitizer level (it will reduce after a couple of hours bathing) then there is no limit to the time you should spend in your tub.

Yes!

The running cost dependent on various factors and will be unique to your hot tub.  The average running cost of an electric hot tub is £1.5-£3 per day in winter. A wood fired hot tub will depend entirely on the price of the wood you buy. On average it will require 2 bags of wood to bring the tub to the correct temperature which, when bought in bulk, can cost as little as £1.

Yes. The hole in which it sits should have a good air flow and be freely drainable to stop your hot tub from rotting. As full weight is around 2 tons it must be put on a solid base which is ideally concrete.  If all of this is achieved then you can.

The best place to situate your hot tub is in an area sheltered from wind which is not overlooked. It is also dependent on the look you are trying to achieve in your garden.

When your hot tub is fully occupied and filled up it is going to weigh around 2 tons. This weight means it must be placed on a solid base. It can only be placed on the decking if you have first consulted the decking company to ensure it can hold the weight. You are able to have your hot tub sunken into the ground or have decking around it, as long as airflow is not obstructed and you are still able to drain your hot tub.

Never. If you build a strong fire and fully open the air cap then the flame could reach up to the top of your chimney and this will prevent accumulation of tar and soot.

All tubs are fitted with standard drain (similar to the sink one). If you upgrade to ‘high flow drain tap’  you will be given a tap and hose tail so you can use the water you empty out to water plants and lawn.

You can expect some slight fading as Larch and Spruce transform to a silvery colour. Original colour can be maintained by applying the correct oil (such as Danish oil) to the outside of your tub.

The ash can be composted or mixed into soil and it is fantastic for your garden.

Occasionally. You don’t have to completely clean it out when you do, but make sure there is a good air supply. When you clean it please use a long handled shovel and ensure that all embers have entirely died out.

Our external heaters come with the ashtray.

Our timber hot tubs insulate the water excellently and our wood-burners are very efficient so you should only need a couple of bags of logs to heat up the water to your desired temperature and maintain it there while you bathe.

No they can’t. Solid fuels should not be used and neither should any wet, fresh or green wood.

Until the wood gets up to the perfect temperature there will be a bit of smoke but once it reaches that temperature there will be a very small amount of smoke if dry wood is used. Burning wood gives off a fantastic smell so further improves the atmosphere.

No. You may hear the gentle sound of the logs burning and the flame in the flue but this just makes the whole experience more atmospheric.

Dependent on tub size, how good the firewood you use is and the temperature of the surrounding air it should take around one to four hours. To ensure the heat is spread evenly the water should be stirred occasionally.

This is the most frequently asked of out FAQs! The honest answer is that it will leak at the start but the wood then swells due to contact with water and forms a tight seal preventing any leaks.

If you care for the hot tub well and add a coating of Danish Oil (or similar) to the outside then it will last indefinitely. We use naturally seasoned Spruce/Oak or Larch, which is tightly grained, so does not rot easily. Your hot tub should last a minimum of 15-20 years.

No! There is a myth that all hot tubs go green and slimy but this only occurs if they are looked after very badly. As long as the easy instructions which we give you are followed then then the wood’s own natural mild antiseptic will make keeping your hot tub clean very simple.

Using natural cleaning products is strongly recommended. Disinfectant should be added an hour before the water is emptied, although this may vary dependent on manufacturer’s instructions. All areas which are accessible should be scrubbed with a sponge or soft brush while the timber is still wet (After or during draining), and then rinsed thoroughly.

This is dependent on usage. In a domestic environment the water should be changed every 2 days but with more intensive use you may wish for the water to be changed every day. If you would like to change the water less frequently then installation of a filtration system is required.

Please note: Never leave your tub empty of water when not in use.

Our positive reputation and strong connections with woods men and foresters around Europe ensures that we do not import from the other side of the world. This allows us to reduce our fuel bills. When this is coupled with our direct negotiations with the people who produce our timber (removing the middle man) we are able to offer you reasonably priced, beautifully constructed products and still allow us to make a fair living.

All the products we supply are fully assembled. Before the hot tub gets to you, the hot tub is thoroughly checked in our workshop. Our driver will help you to carry the tub in your required position, but you would ideally need 4 strong men in total.

Normally no. The only requirement is that the site for the hot tub is level and firm. The wood-fired hot tubs that we supply will need a garden hose with which to fill it and also a couple of bags of dry firewood to start the fire with. For the electrically powered hot tubs then we need you to find out the best way to connect to the mains electricity by consulting your local electrician.

A sauna is a room constructed of softwood with a single heater, either electric or wood burning, that is capable of reaching temperatures in excess of 190° Fahrenheit. The high temperatures produce a very dry environment with extremely low humidity. You can tolerate the heat because of the low humidity, and since the soft lumber does not absorb significant heat, you can sit in comfort.

They are one and the same. When you enter the hot room, and before any water is sprinkled on the rocks, it is considered dry due to the dry heat and absence of humidity. The minute you generate steam by sprinkling water on the rocks, it is considered wet. Essentially it is a wet/dry room, and the wet or dry terminology relates to the level of humidity in the room.

By definition, a sauna is a room where water is used to generate steam, so technically the infrared experience is not a sauna at all. Infrared does not warm the room but instead penetrates the body with infrared rays. It does so at a low temperature and is helpful in relieving sore joints and muscles. The proper definition for the infrared experience is to refer to it as an “infrared therapy room.” The wet/dry effect is a total body experience, providing joint and muscle relief as well as a host of other health benefits.

An authentic sauna is designed to get hot, and the health benefits are generated due to the hot temperature achieved in the room. As your body heats, your heart rate accelerates, leading to all the benefits of aerobic activity. Some of the many benefits include weight loss due to increased calorie burn, improved circulation, pain relief for sore muscles and joints, respiratory enhancement due to the moist steam, and detoxification due to intense perspiration. Additionally, it is a very relaxing and therapeutic experience that helps many people reduce stress and sleep better.

According to The North American Sauna Society, you can burn up to 300 calories in a single session. Weight loss is due both to calorie burn from an elevated heart rate and water loss due to sweating. The addition of regular sauna use is a great compliment to a weight-loss program.

Unlike most competitors, our barrel sauna models are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Red Cedar is naturally resistant to decay, and the ball and socket design of the staves makes for a robust seal and solid structure for outdoor use. Additionally, the thick softwood staves are excellent at retaining the heat and the circular barrel shape provides excellent distribution of heat.

Red Cedar is the preferred timber for several reasons. First, it is one of the few woods naturally resistant to rot, decay and mildew, and as such can readily be used for indoor or outdoor construction. Also, because it is a very soft wood, Red Cedar allows your body to be in comfortable contact with the wood even though the air in the sauna room is very hot. Unlike some cedar wood, Western Canadian Red Cedar carries no harmful toxins or respiratory discomfort. Finally, nothing compares to the sweet, fresh scent of Western Canadian Red Cedar.. And, of course, no other wood has the aroma of Western Canadian Red Cedar, the wood of choice for sauna enthusiasts!

The great thing about Western Canadian Red Cedar is that you don’t need to treat it. Left natural, the wood will turn a silver color over time due to the effects of sun and rain with no detrimental effect on the wood itself. If you wish to retain the rich, natural color, you should treat the exterior of the sauna with a UV inhibited stain that will resist the weathering effects of sunlight and rain. Your local paint professional can assist with a suitable product. Note: never treat the interior of the room.

The overall experience, including heat time and temperature range, is similar whether heating with electric or wood. The wood heater will require that you vent the heater out the top or back of the room as well as provide an appropriate firewall around the heater. Venting materials are not included with the heater, and installation should be done in compliance with the heater manufacturers’ instructions as well as applicable building codes.

All of the Wooden SPA Solutions models can be used in any environment, but in all cases it is important that the surface supporting the room is firm and level (a slight taper for rain run-off is fine.) Suitable surfaces include wood decks, concrete patios, paver stones, pressed gravel, etc. The Barrel can be placed directly on the ground due to the synthetic plastic cradle supports, which create a barrier between the red cedar and the bare ground.

Each Wooden SPA Solutions purchase includes the cedar room, heater, stones, light, bucket, ladle, and thermometer/hydrometer. Optional items include backrest, leg rest, sauna roof kit, magazine rack, wooden doors, sand timers, and more.

The costs of operating the electrical heater are minimal for a couple of reasons. First, the unit operates on efficient 220 volt electric and draws less than 40 amps of power. Second, unlike a spa or other household appliance, the heater only draws power when you want to use it. You turn on the heater no more than an hour or so before you want to use it and then shut it off when you’re finished. The costs of operation are negligible under normal use, much like the cost of a clothes dryer or electric oven.

Heat-up time is based on ambient temperature, so the room will get to temperature faster when the outside air is 50F when compared to, say, 20F. Also, the optimal temperature varies by individual; some people like a lower temperature heat such as 165F, while others prefer a higher temperature of, say, 190F. However, as a rule of thumb, the room will heat to 165F in 30-40 minutes, and to 190F in less than 60 minutes.

The heater will require 220v power and must be hard-wired to the heater. If your room is located 30 feet or less from your breaker box, the unit will require 10/2 wire and a 30amp breaker. Over 30 feet will require 8/2 wire. The light will require 110v power and an on/off switch must be wired inline at a convenient location for your specific application. You should always follow the wiring instructions of the specific heater and have a licensed electrician do your wiring according to local electrical regulations.

From an operational standpoint, very little maintenance is required. Depending on the humidity and weather conditions in your area, you may need to tighten the bands or place additional filler staves in the sauna after a period of time, usually in the first few months. This is because any swelling and shrinkage of the wood will occur due to the amount of moisture absorption, and the desired effect is to have the wood “swell” or expand into the bands. You may want to periodically scrub the floor or benches with a mild solution of water and baking soda, but other than that, simply enjoy your sauna!
